They do make a tool that hooks up to a slide hammer to remove the axle.I have used a hammer on the inside cv if really hard to remove from trans. Be careful of the case, you can use a punch to drive on the inner CV. let me know what side and why you are removing the axle. Pry the axle shaft out of the transmission. Tap the handle of the pry bar with a hammer to help separate the axle from the transmission, if necessary. Remove the axle shaft from under the vehicle. Installation . Compare the new and faulty axle to ensure the new axle is the same exact length and each end has the same number of splines. As it was suggested, a long pry bar in between the axle and the transmission will pop the rest of it out. It will require a sudden jolt type pull to pop it out. Not a progressive pull like in a tug-of-war.
If you tried to pull on the whole axle from the wheel end you'd simply pull the inner shaft & boot out of it's housing. The inner shaft cup would still be in the transaxle. I took a mini crow bar and from underneath, slipped it over the end of the axle between the trans and inner end of the shaft. (From the front, open end facing the rear.) I just went and bought a set of three new pry bars with rubber/plastic handles instead of using the crow bar I always used. On the drivers side I could get a pry bar in there to pry between the transmission and cv axle cup but on the passenger side there isn't a cv cup to wedge the bar between. There is just a shaft running to a bracket that supports an axle bearing.

'94 integra rs w/ 146k... To remove the axle I rented a slide hammer and an axle flange attaching two vice grips clamped on each side of the inboard axle housing. I could not remove the axle by using a pry bar. I watched a video where the axle just popped out oh so easily using a pry bar. Hahaha.
If the car does not have this bearing use a large pry bar and wedge it between the transmission case and the axle and pry outward. This will pop the axle out from the transmission and enable you to remove the axle.

Mine had a pin through it that was welded to the knuckle. You now have the outer tie rod end and axle away from the car. To get the inner end out of the transmission, you’ll need a good pry bar and a catch pan. Use the pry bar to carefully separate the tie rod from the transmission housing. Once it pops out, you will likely have transmission fluid running. Pull the axle assembly out of the car.
